Evaluations and Eligibility

Evaluations and eligibility determinations for special education in Richland Parish are conducted in full compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Louisiana Bulletin 1508: Pupil Appraisal Handbook. These laws ensure that every student is evaluated fairly, accurately, and in a timely manner, using procedures designed to identify educational needs and determine appropriate services. Our goal is to provide families with a clear and supportive process that protects student rights and promotes access to a free appropriate public education (FAPE).

Families and educators may review the governing laws at the following official sites:

Do you have concerns?

Richland Parish is committed to supporting every child’s learning needs. If you have concerns about your child’s progress, you may request a conference with the teacher using the form below. After this meeting, you may choose to refer your child to the School Building Level Committee (SBLC), a team that works together to identify supports and interventions.

Through our Child Find process, the district also provides free referral and information services for children from birth through age 21 who may have learning, developmental, behavioral, communication, sensory, or motor needs, as well as those who show advanced academic ability.

If you believe your child may benefit from these services, or if you need help navigating the process, please contact the Special Education Department or the Pupil Appraisal Office at 318-728-5964. We are here to help every child learn and succeed.
