QUALIFICATIONS FOR SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS

 

 

A person is legally qualified to become a member of the Richland Parish School Board provided:

 

  1. The person shall have attained the age of eighteen (18).

  2. The person shall possess a high school diploma or its equivalent, as determined by the Louisiana Department of Education.

  3. The person shall be domiciled in the election district for the preceding year.

  4. The person shall have resided in the state for the preceding two (2) years.

  5. The person is able to read and write.

  6. The person is not serving on certain other boards specified in the Constitution of Louisiana’s prohibition against dual office holding.

  7. The person must swear or affirm to the prescribed oath and the oath must be filed with the clerk of the Parish Court.  "I, (A. B.) do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support the Constitution and laws of the United States and the Constitution and laws of the State; and that I will faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon me as. according to the best of my ability and understanding.  So help me God."

 

Should any member of the School Board move his/her domicile from the election district from which such member was elected, the seat held by said member shall be declared vacant, and such vacant seat shall be filled in accordance with applicable law of the State of Louisiana.

 

It is desirable that members of the School Board have a genuine interest in and devotion to public education, a willingness to give time and effort to the work, a capacity for understanding people, and the ability to work cooperatively with others.
