BOARD OFFICERS
The Richland Parish School Board shall elect for a one (1) year term one (1) of its members to serve as president, and one (1) to serve as vice-president, effective the first meeting in January. In those years where School Board elections are held and newly elected members have been seated, the Board shall elect officers at the January meeting after the newly elected members have been seated. The President shall preside at all meetings of the Board and shall call special meetings when required. He/she shall sign with the Superintendent, the minutes and other official documents which require the signature of the President. He/she shall perform other duties prescribed by law or Board policy.
In the absence of the President or in the event of his/her death, or his/her ability or failure to act, the Vice-President shall perform the duties of the President, and, when so acting, shall have all the powers of the President.
The Superintendent shall serve as secretary and treasurer of the Board. His/her duties shall include but not be limited to:
Keep a full and accurate record of the proceedings of the School Board.
Receive all reports required by the Board.
Announce meetings, prepare agenda of all meetings.
Attend all meetings of the Board and its committees.
Advise the Board of policies previously adopted which affect items on the agenda requiring policy consideration.
Countersign and execute all documents associated with all transactions duly approved by the Board.
Safeguard and account for all funds to which the Board is entitled by law.
Receipt and deposit monies in accordance with the laws governing the deposit of public funds.
Issue warrants in payments of expenses lawfully incurred on behalf of the School Board as required by law.
In the absence of the president and vice president, call the Board meeting to order and conduct the election of a chairman pro tem.
