QUALIFICATIONS FOR SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS

 

 

A person is legally qualified to become a member of the Richland Parish School Board provided:

 

1.

The person is a resident of the election district.

 

2.

The person is a qualified elector.

 

3.

The person is able to read and write.

 

4.

The person is not serving on certain other Boards specified in the Constitution of Louisiana.

 

5.

The person must swear or affirm to the prescribed oath and the oath must be filed with the clerk of the Parish Court.  "I, (A. B.) do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support the Constitution and laws of the United States and the Constitution and laws of the State; and that I will faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon me as.........according to the best of my ability and understanding.  So help me God."

 

However, it is desirable that members of the Board have a genuine interest in and devotion to public education, a willingness to give time and effort to the work, a capacity for understanding people, and the ability to work cooperatively with others.
